Creating More Space for a Growing Joinery Business

When Neil Burke Joinery (NBJ) needed additional space to support its growing business, the company once again turned to Midbrook Steel Buildings.

NBJ is a specialist joinery business with more than 40 years of experience, delivering bespoke joinery and cabinetry for a wide range of prestigious projects. As the business continues to invest in its people, plant, machinery and facilities, having the right space to support its operations is essential.

This latest project provided NBJ with a substantial new storage facility, giving the business additional capacity without compromising on the quality and performance expected from a modern commercial building.

A 20m x 36m Insulated Steel Storage Building

Midbrook designed and installed a 20m x 36m x 5m steel storage building, providing NBJ with 720m² of additional floor space.

The building features:

  • 20m width
  • 36m length
  • 5m eaves height
  • 80mm insulated wall panels
  • 80mm insulated roof panels

The insulated specification provides a more comfortable and controlled environment while creating a durable, practical space designed around NBJ's storage requirements.

A Returning Customer

This isn't the first time NBJ has worked with Midbrook.

We previously completed an extension to NBJ's existing workshop, creating additional space for the business and providing a bespoke solution that integrated with its existing facilities.

You can read about the previous project here:

Steel Building Extension & Bespoke Workshop for NBJ

We've also previously carried out a roof overcladding project for NBJ.

Having the opportunity to work with a customer on multiple projects is something we're particularly proud of. It demonstrates the trust that can develop when a building contractor consistently delivers on quality, service and timescales.

From Workshop Extension to Additional Storage

NBJ's projects with Midbrook demonstrate how steel-framed buildings can provide flexible solutions as a business evolves.

The first project focused on extending NBJ's existing workshop. This latest building provides additional storage capacity, helping the business make better use of its wider site and accommodate its continued growth.

For businesses that are expanding, a steel-framed building can provide a practical way to add significant floor space without the cost and complexity associated with more traditional construction methods.

Delivered in Just 5–6 Weeks

Work on the latest NBJ building began in mid-April, with the project completed in approximately 5–6 weeks.

The Midbrook team worked efficiently throughout the installation to deliver the building on programme and minimise disruption to NBJ's ongoing operations.

The result is a fantastic new storage building that gives NBJ the additional space it needed.

And according to the customer, it's already being put to good use:

“The shed looks good and is filling up fast.”

What NBJ Said About Working with Midbrook

As a returning customer, NBJ has now worked with Midbrook on multiple building projects.

Their five-star Google review said:

“This is the 4th time we have engaged Midbrook to put up a building for us. The projects have all been completed on schedule and professionally to the highest standard. Would recommend.”

We're incredibly grateful to NBJ for continuing to choose Midbrook for its building requirements.

Repeat business is one of the strongest endorsements we can receive, and we're pleased to have supported NBJ through several stages of its growth.

How Much Does a Steel Storage Building Like This Cost?

The cost of a steel building can vary significantly depending on its size, specification, location and the requirements of the individual project.

As a guide (subject to change), a steel building of this size could start from approximately £120,000 + VAT for a single-skin specification, with costs potentially reaching £200,000 + VAT or more for a higher-specification building.

The final cost will depend on factors including:

  • Level of insulation – from single-skin cladding through to fully insulated walls and roof
  • Building specification – including doors, windows, rooflights and other requirements
  • Site location – including the destination and associated delivery and installation costs
  • Ground conditions and foundations
  • Planning and Building Control requirements
  • The level of turnkey service required

For a building of this size, £120,000–£200,000 + VAT provides a useful guide, but every project is different and the final cost will depend on the exact specification and site requirements.
