Project Overview

A school in Horsham, West Sussex, required additional storage space for athletics equipment used by its community gym and sports facilities. With regular use by both students and the local community, the school needed a practical, durable storage building that could be installed quickly while still complementing the surrounding environment.

Midbrook Steel Buildings supplied a timber-clad steel storage building, working closely with the client to ensure the groundwork design met building control requirements before delivery and installation. The project was completed in just six weeks, providing the school with a reliable new facility to support its growing sports and community activities.

The Challenge

As part of a wider development, the school had recently gained a new athletic village, which housed a running track, all to support both student activities and community gym use. With the expansion of their sports facilities, they needed a dedicated space to safely store athletics equipment used on the track.

The project also came with a clear time constraint, as the building needed to be completed in time for the Spring 2026 athletics season. In addition, the school required a solution that could be delivered efficiently with no disruption to day-to-day school operations or community gym sessions.

Midbrook’s Solution

Midbrook worked closely with the client from the outset to ensure the project could be delivered efficiently and in line with the required timeline. While the client arranged their own groundworks, our team provided guidance on the groundworks design to ensure the foundations met structural requirements and complied with building control regulations.

Once the groundwork preparation was complete, Midbrook delivered and installed the steel building, along with the external cladding, internal ply lining and brickwork elements. The building was completed in just six weeks, ensuring the new storage facility was ready for use ahead of the Spring 2026 athletics season. As part of a much wider development at the school, we’re proud to have played a role in supporting a project that benefits both students and the wider community.

Why Steel Was the Right Choice

For schools and community sports facilities, steel buildings offer a practical and reliable solution when additional space is needed quickly. For this project in Horsham, a steel-framed building provided the ideal balance of speed, durability and flexibility.

Fast Construction

Steel buildings can be installed quickly, helping to reduce disruption in busy school environments. This building was completed in just six weeks, ensuring it was ready in time for the Spring 2026 athletics season.

Durability

Steel buildings provide long-term strength and reliability, making them well-suited to high-use environments such as schools and community sports facilities.

Flexible Design

The clear-span steel frame allows for a practical internal space without internal columns, making it ideal for storing athletics and sports equipment.

Cost-Effective

Steel frame buildings offer excellent value compared with traditional construction methods, delivering robust and versatile spaces with efficient build times.

The Result

The completed building now provides the school with a practical and dedicated storage space for athletics equipment used by both students and the wider community gym.

By combining the strength of a steel frame with timber-style cladding, the building delivers both durability and an attractive appearance that complements the surrounding school environment.

Delivered efficiently and in time for the Spring 2026 athletics season, the project has helped support the school’s expanding sports facilities while ensuring there was no disruption to day-to-day operations during construction.
