Yesterday, we had the pleasure of visiting our valued client, Dexel Tyres, a renowned name in the tyre and automotive industry. Our mission? To enhance their restricted, overgrown site in Sheffield into a modern, spacious steel workshop for their automotive services, including tyre fitting. What started as a phone consultation about their steel-framed building project quickly evolved into detailed discussions, site visits, and a full turnkey package. These conversations laid the groundwork for designing a steel building that perfectly aligns with Dexel Tyres’ needs, turning their vision into a striking reality!

Complete Steel Building Turnkey Package: From Redesign to Installation
From start to finish, Midbrook was responsible for every aspect of this steel building project, ensuring that the new automotive workshop would not only meet but exceed expectations. Here’s what our turnkey solution included:
- Redesign and Drawings: Our expert team reimagined the entire space, producing detailed drawings that maximised the site’s potential while aligning with Dexel Tyres’ operational requirements.
- Planning Permission Approval: We successfully navigated the complex planning permission process, securing the necessary approvals to move forward without delays.
- Building Control – Shell Only: Midbrook handled all aspects of building control for the steel frame structure, ensuring that the shell met the highest standards of safety and compliance.
- Site Clearance: The transformation began with thorough site clearance, turning an overgrown, restricted space into a clean slate for construction.
- Groundworks: Our team managed all aspects of groundworks, including the concrete pour and reinforcement mesh installation, laying a solid foundation for the steel-framed building that followed.
- Installed Steel Building: We erected the robust steel building, designed to withstand daily wear and tear while providing ample space and functionality.
- Mezzanine Floor: A load-bearing mezzanine floor was installed, complete with access steps, providing valuable storage space above the reception area.
- Windows and Doors: These are being completed this week. We are fitting all windows and doors, including a strategically placed window in the reception area that offers a clear view into the workshop bay.
Building Specifications
The steel frame building we constructed is as functional as it is durable, featuring:
- 40mm Insulated Roof: Offering thermal efficiency, keeping the workshop comfortable year-round.
- 0.5mm Single Skin Walls: Providing a sturdy exterior that is both weather-resistant and aesthetically pleasing.
- 16m x 25m x 4.8m to Eaves: The building’s dimensions offer ample space for operations, with a height that accommodates various equipment needs.
- Dual Pitched Roof: A classic design choice that enhances both drainage and structural integrity.
- 5 Bays: The workshop includes five bays, each tailored to support the busy workflow of tyre fitting and automotive services.
Final Stages of Completion
We’re now in the final stages, with the installation of doors and windows almost complete. Despite the challenging site conditions, we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. This project is a testament to the versatility and reliability of steel frame buildings, and we’re proud to have played a key role in delivering this outstanding commercial building for Dexel Tyres.
